It is written in the book that Man, when fifty, must leave the noisy world, to go to the forest seclusion. But the poet proclaims that the forest hermitage is only for the young. For it is the birthplace of flowers and the haunt of birds and bees; and hidden hooks are waiting there for the thrill of lovers' whispers. There the moonlight, that is all one kiss for the malati flowers, has its deep message, but those who understand it are far below fifty.
And alas, youth is inexperienced and wilful, therefore it is but meet that the old should take charge of the household, and the young take to the seclusion of forest shades and the severe discipline of courting.Bản dịch của Đỗ Khánh Hoan
Sách có ghi: Lúc nào đến tuổi năm mươi nên từ giã xã hội ồn ào lên rừng ở ẩn. Thế nhưng thi nhân lại bảo cuộc sống ẩn dật trong rừng chỉ dành cho những mái đầu xanh. Vì rừng xanh là quê hương của loài ong, vì rừng xanh là đất nước loài hoa, vì rừng xanh là tổ ấm loài chim. Ở đó, nơi khuất kín đang chờ đợi tiếng thì thầm rạo rực của các cặp tình nhân; ở đó, kết lại thành nụ hôn dành riêng cho hoa malati, ánh trăng thao thức nỗi niềm; song những người thấu hiểu niềm riêng ấy lại đều dưới rất nhiều tuổi năm mươi.
Hỡi ơi, tuổi trẻ thường non dại, lông bông; bởi thế, người đầu bạc và cao niên ở lại trông nom nhà cửa, còn những mái đầu xanh vào rừng sống ẩn dưới bóng mát tàn cây, theo luật lệ khắt khe của nghệ thuật trao tình.
